The New 2027 Bailey Unicorn Range Explained

After its first unveiling in 2010, the Bailey Unicorn quickly became a popular choice for buyers across the country. Anchoring itself as Bailey’s new flagship caravan range, replacing its predecessor, the Senator, and bringing with it some pioneering innovations. It was the first Bailey caravan to feature the Alde wet central heating and hot water system, the first premium caravan in Bailey’s portfolio to feature their Alu-Tech construction system, and more!
Now, for 2027, the Unicorn has undergone its biggest shake-up yet — bringing with it a variety of changes, and resulting in a well-thought-out range, focusing on what customers want, gaps in the market, and layouts that have proven to be popular.
Here’s a breakdown of the 2027 Bailey Unicorn range, followed by our honest opinions about the changes…
This year, the Unicorn range has been divided into three different categories: Unicorn Lite, Unicorn Deluxe and Unicorn Grande. Each offering its own distinct characteristics.
Unicorn Lite
This division includes 3 single-axle, lightweight layouts. It’s designed to appeal to those looking for a premium caravan with a narrower 7ft 3in bodyshell and a lower MTPLM. Ideal for people with electric vehicles, smaller tow cars, or those looking to upgrade from an entry-level model.
The weight savings are made by removing the Alde wet central heating system, previously a staple specification of a Bailey Unicorn, and replacing it with the powerful and fast Truma CombiNeo 4 heating and hot water system. In addition to this, a compact combi oven and hob is installed, along with an under-counter fridge/freezer. These weight savings mitigate the need for heavy-duty corner steadies, further saving weight and helping keep all of the Unicorn Lite models under 1,500kg.
The Unicorn Lite also includes a return of the Valencia layout. This was once the best-selling layout in the Unicorn range, but was discontinued in 2022 when buyer focus shifted towards the transverse island bed layouts. This fixed side double bed layout features a full-width rear washroom, 4 berths, and, as with all models, Bailey’s signature opening vertical skylight.
Unicorn Deluxe
This is the essence of the Unicorn range and includes four popular layouts, all of which are on single axles. The Deluxe features the natural oak and stone grey finishes shown across the 2027 Unicorn models and does include Alde heating and hot water. Plus a gas oven with separate grill, hob with one electric hotplate, and a large fridge freezer.
The Cabrera layout features a redesigned middle washroom, with a sliding door closing it off from the front and a bi-fold door to the bedroom side. This clever partition neatly closes off the washroom when not in use, allowing a seamless transition towards the bedroom, but then opens up to create a larger washroom when required.
Unicorn Grande
Replacing the Alicanto, this new 8ft wide Unicorn features four twin axle layouts, offering a huge amount of living space inside for luxurious touring holidays or for use on seasonal pitches. The elevated specification of the Grande includes a 40-litre onboard water tank, large fridge freezer and an Omnivent extractor fan above the kitchen.
The washrooms in the Lucena, Villena and Cordoba layouts are colossal, measuring approximately 1 metre deep and spread across the entire width of the rear. The fixed single beds of the Cordoba are some of the largest we’ve ever seen in a touring caravan, and take full advantage of the 8ft wide bodyshell!
Our honest thoughts…
As owners of an original Series 1 Bailey Unicorn Valencia, who have travelled extensively with it for the past 9 years, we were excited to see a return of this layout for 2027. It was fun to compare the differences and improvements that have been made, and we noted that the newer models have retained what we love about the range – They are just a nice place to be. Modern, luxurious, but homely and familiar, with warm finishes and soft lighting.
We also LOVE that in a modern and evolving world, the simplicity has remained: Manual switches to operate lights, pump, etc, with no need to go to university for 12 years to be able to understand a digital touchscreen control panel.
It was great to see the addition of an offside service light. Whilst this is something that has been included on the last few generations of Unicorn, it wasn’t on our S1, and something we’ve often thought about retrofitting.
Whilst it is an important factor for us, we do know of several people who aren’t particularly fussed about the Alde heating system, but do want something that’s more compact. The new Unicorn Lite options now give them the choice of something that’s premium.
Which 2027 Bailey Unicorn is our favourite?
The Unicorn Grande Villena… Oh my goodness — What. A. Caravan!
Utterly stunning inside and out, and for those not bothered about the hyped up spec of a Coachman Lusso, this is a very, very serious contender, at a much more attractive price point. And with an upgraded MTPLM of 2,000kg, it gives you a generous amount of payload for adding the options that you choose.
We’ve been in 8ft-wide caravans in the past, but I’ll never forget the feeling of space I felt when walking into the Villena for the first time, turning to the right and looking towards the bedroom. It was like a small house!

So, what don’t we like?
Not a lot, from what we initially saw at our preview… But if we were to be picky, then we’ve never particularly liked the direction Bailey took when removing the built-in radio with an AUX port from their caravans, and replacing it with a portable speaker that could get lost or damaged, and needs charging. We don’t bring a television with us anymore, but we do like plugging in a laptop to the caravan speakers and playing music or streaming films and TV shows, which is particularly helpful during bad weather, with the roar of rain thundering down on our roof.
Secondly, we noticed the position of the microwave in the Villena was hidden inside a cupboard, as shown pictured above. Whilst this was neat and tucked away, it did require two cupboard doors to be open to access.
We are also not too keen on the location of the front side marker lights and their vulnerability to becoming damaged when pulling a canopy onto the rail. This is a minor dislike, but is something extra to be careful of.
Overall: Fair play to Bailey
They seem to exhibit a good understanding of what their customers want, as well as the current market conditions. The new Unicorn will remain a popular choice for buyers, ringing true to the ethos of the range, which, as stated in the original Unicorn brochure, is “For those who appreciate the finer things in life”.
